These are a selection of characters from Star Trek: The Next Generation rendered as System 7 custom icons. These icons are suitable for: decorating files, folders, floppy disks and hard disks; illustration; and trading with your friends.
To attach one of these custom icons to a file, folder or disk:
¥ Select the icon file in the Finder;
¥ Choose Get Info (Command-I) from the File menu;
¥ In the Info window, click on the icon;
¥ Choose Copy (Command-C) from the Edit menu and close the Info window;
¥ Select the target file to which you wish to attach the custom icon;
¥ Choose Get Info;
¥ In the Info window, click on the target fileÕs icon;
¥ Choose Paste (Command-V) from the Edit menu and close the Info window.
You can also open the icon files using ResEdit, iContraption, I Like Icon! or any other resource- or icon-editor. Double-clicking on one of the files will open it in TeachText, displaying the artistÕs name and installation instructions.
We (Julie and Mark) have lovingly hand-crafted these icons for the fun of it. Please share them with your friends and distribute them in any way that seems appropriate, with the following two restrictions:
¥ DonÕt charge people for them. This refers only to explicitly asking for money for the icons themselves, not to the connect-time charges and other general fees that on-line services may charge. The rule of thumb here is, be generous.
¥ Make sure that credit is always given to us, the artists. We donÕt mind if you throw these in with a general collection of other icons, but you MUST make sure that our names are attached to our handiwork. We wonÕt look kindly on those who claim they donÕt know where the icons came from, let alone those who slap their own name on our work. The rule of thumb here is, donÕt be a jerk.
